Gulf Sponsor Pukeroa MTB Challenge
CRT Co-operative’s fuel division is big news in the fuel distribution market nationwide; they are the largest independent distributor in the country, but because their shareholder base is largely in the South Island, the North Island public haven’t been as exposed to the CRT Fuel and Gulf brands.
When Gulf lubricants were made available to bulk fuel customers in the North Island, the fuel distribution team were looking for an opportunity to introduce the public to Gulf, so they teamed up with the local high school and sponsored the Pukeroa Mountain Bike Challenge. The Year 13 physical education class from Central Hawkes Bay College organised the event with CRT Fuel and New Zealand Gulf distributor, Gulf Lubricants, as joint sponsors, and it was held in October 2011 at Waipukurau.
Ultimately, the bike challenge was a triumph and the event went without a hitch. There were a good number of competitors in all three sections – downhill, sprint and cross country, and there was positive feedback about the quality of the tracks.
CRT Fuel’s North Island Territory Manager, Grant Miller, was pleased to have such a great platform to launch Gulf to the North Island public. “It was a great opportunity to support the local community, and to introduce the public to the Gulf and CRT Fuel brands. For many of the people who attended, this would have been the first time they had seen the Gulf logo. The students did a really fantastic job organising the event, the effort they put in was outstanding,” he said.
